Post-operative wound care and aftercare
Stress-free post-operative and wound care.
The at-home veterinary service for post-operative wound care and aftercare is designed to provide high-quality medical and nursing care in the safest and most comfortable place: your home. After surgery, an accident, or a wound, keeping the patient relaxed and on strict rest is essential for a fast recovery without complications, completely avoiding the pain and stress of travelling to a clinic.

Medical coordination
If your pet has had surgery at a veterinary hospital, I coordinate with the surgeon to follow the prescribed medical protocol strictly.
Scheduled visits and wound care
I visit your home as often as the severity of the wound or the type of post-operative care requires, to carry out clinical care without rushing:
- Care for surgical and traumatic wounds: Thorough cleaning with specific antiseptics and application of healing ointments or advanced dressings depending on the type of injury.
- Removal of stitches and staples: Once the skin has healed, I remove the suture material gently and almost imperceptibly.
- Bandage management and changes: Application, checks, and regular changes of protective or stabilising bandages, ensuring they are clean, dry, and do not compromise circulation.
Advice on their resting area
I directly assess where your pet sleeps to provide handling guidelines that prevent them from licking wounds (managing the Elizabethan collar or post-operative recovery suits) or making sudden movements.
Ongoing follow-up
After each wound-care session, I monitor progress and keep you informed about when they can safely return to their usual routine.

Información clave
Key benefits of recovering at home:
True strict rest: You avoid your pet having to jump into the car, walk on slippery surfaces, or put strain on newly operated joints and sutures too soon.
Preventing stress-related infections: The stress of traditional clinics suppresses the immune system. By treating your pet at home, their defences stay strong to speed up healing.
Advice on their resting area: I directly assess where your pet sleeps to provide handling guidelines that prevent them from licking wounds (managing the Elizabethan collar or post-operative recovery suits) or making sudden movements.

Preguntas Frecuentes
What types of wound care and aftercare can you provide directly at my home?
I provide complete veterinary nursing care after surgery, an accident, or a wound: cleaning and disinfecting traumatic or surgical wounds, applying medication/healing dressings, managing or changing bandages, and removing stitches or staples.
Why is it better to do wound care and remove stitches at home rather than at the clinic?
After a procedure or injury, strict rest is key to fast healing. Treating your pet at home prevents them from having to jump into the car, walk on slippery surfaces, or become stressed in the waiting room (stress weakens their defences and negatively affects recovery).
If my pet was operated on at a veterinary centre or hospital, can you provide the aftercare?
Yes, of course. I coordinate directly with the surgeon or medical team who performed the procedure to follow, with absolute precision, the wound-care and medication protocol they have prescribed.
Is removing stitches or staples at home painful for my pet?
No. When it is done in the calm of their own space (their bed or the sofa) and without the tension of the clinic, removing suture material is a very quick, subtle, and painless process.
Will you advise me on how to set up their resting area to avoid complications?
Yes. During the visit, I directly assess the environment where your pet sleeps to provide practical handling guidelines: use of an Elizabethan collar or post-operative recovery suits, tips to prevent them from licking wounds, and how to avoid sudden movements during the rest period.
How often should visits be scheduled for wound care?
The frequency will depend on the type of wound, sutures, or procedure performed. I will visit your home at the exact intervals required by the severity of the case, and we will maintain ongoing follow-up until we confirm the skin has fully healed.
